Investing in Real Estate 104 (Structure)

Hi guys! How y’all going? Would you believe it but it’s end of January already! Does time fly fast eh – they say that most New Year’s Resolutions don’t last past January. But I think when you have a steady 9 to 5, active social calendar and fully booked weekend – no WONDER we find it hard to accomplish our goals. Throw in a kid or two in the mix and you’re dunne like a bunne. That’s why time is the most valuable commodity of all – it’s finite, you can never get it back. I try and make sure to use it as wisely and efficiently as possible. Which…

Investing in Real Estate 103 (Leveraging for a Pre-approval)

Happy Australia Day folks! To all our international friends – January’s usually a good month here in Australia, because so shortly after the New Year celebrations – there’s a three week hiatus which culminates into another party for the Australia Day long weekend. Surely there are worse things in life than moments spent with your family and friends accompanied by yummy food and delicious wine? That’s what makes living in this country so great, the sense of community, good living and general good vibes. Our attitude towards real estate is pretty unique as well – the “Great Australian Dream” is ingrained in our national psyche, a generational belief that home…

Investing in Real Estate 102 (Mindset and More)

HEY news flash guys – did you know big circles are really hard to fit inside small rectangles? After 2 hours of trying, MrsFrugalSamurai-to-be and I know now. Yep, that’s the scenario that confronted her and I when one of her good friends’ generously offered a barely-used dining table to us. With hindsight, I should have figured out something was slightly amiss when she said that the table was a “demountable”. The only experience I’ve had with demountables are mobile classrooms and other really really big structures that can fit whole adults inside them. I tried to quiz MrsFrugalSamurai-to-be on how big the table was BEFORE we left to pick…

Investing in Real Estate 101 (The Beginning)

“Hey TheFrugalSamurai, I’m keen to purchase this property but don’t know if I should do it – what are your thoughts?” This message popped up on my private messages one morning. YIPPEE KI-YAY was my first thought, finally through the mist of obscurity I’ve become someone of repute, of unquestionable character, a subject matter expert, a… SNAP out of it fool! No time for self-indulgence or shallowness for TheFrugalSamurai – for here lay the reason why I started this blog, to share, help and connect with others financially. I read that question again a couple of times and got thinking… Hm, you know, the earlier series I wrote on cryptocurrency…

    First Day At Work

What’s up guys, back again! Feels like I never left right? Hope everyone’s having a great week so far, I know I am… because it’s the fortnightly payday today! Yay! Money from our corporate masters – Huzzah! To be honest, I was tempted to transfer some of my hard-earned into a crypto account. But then I remembered that I don’t like speculating. So I transferred it to my Sportsbet investment fund instead. Today’s also the day that a whole bunch of graduates started their careers and a couple of them are in our team. I love having grads in our team – their fresh-faces, keen-eyes and enthusiastic minds remind me of…

4 More Learnings From Planning a Wedding (So Far)

Hey boys and girls! It’s your favourite Frugal Samurai again – how’s everybody doing? Did you have a wonderful weekend? What’d ya get up to?! Mine was go go go all the way. Doing what you ask? Ticking off our wedding checklist. There’s so many items left that it feels like we’re back to our university days. You know, when you have an assignment deadline tomorrow, you have a rough idea of what to do, AND you know you’ll be staying up all night to get it done. Coming out of our last meeting with the wedding planner, we got the what to do reasonably down pat. Now it’s the…

    What Does Your Heart Say?

“But… why can’t we buy this?” This was the question pre-adolescent me would often ask my parents growing up in our small two-bedroom flat by the tracks. Because we can’t afford it.  The same response, over and over. This line of thinking was ingrained in me for so long that whenever a decision is required to be made – inevitably “I can’t afford it”. Should I start my own business? Nope, stick with your job instead, you can’t afford to quit. Should I invest in the stock market? Nope, people can lose their whole fortune investing, you can’t afford to invest. Should I talk to that girl? Nope, she won’t…

    Cryptoboom vs Dotcomboom

What’s up guys! Are you staying cool in this Sydney heat? 41 degrees yo – that’s some serious warmth. Not looking forward to heading back to work tomorrow in this weather – but I am pumped to get back into it! Two weeks flew by and so much has happened since the break started. What happened since then? CRYPTOMANIA! We live in exciting times I have to admit, with Cryptocurrency mania well and truly gripping the mainstream. I told you guys last time that this year I’m going to dedicate more time to research Cryptocurrencies and the blockchain, but seems like I didn’t have to go very far. Practically every conversation…

    Hello 2018!

HAY YOU! SNNNNNIFFFFF – smell that, it’s the smell of the new year, so fresh and clean! Welcome to 2018. I’m EXCITED! Hope everyone’s recovered from the New Year party hangover. How’d you spend yours?! I spent NYE with MrsFrugalSamurai-to-be together on an epic roadtrip: firstly to a spa retreat on the other side of the Blue Mountains (2 hours away), back home for dinner with the parentals, into the city for New Year’s fireworks, across to (the world famous) Bondi Beach after, then back to the city to crash. Man what a day – if only everyday was like this! People laughing, partying, enjoy time with their loved ones…
