4 Quick Lessons from Moving Houses (Revisited)

Reading Time: 4 Minutes What’s UP people! Apologies for the mini hiatus everyone, but The Frugal Samurai is back online FINALLY. Did ya miss me? To quote a scholar “I’ve never left you. Been a faithful blogreader this whole time. Staying true”. That’s my number one fan this is Stan. For the rest of you, I can explain… Last week, we’ve had a crazy week or so. Getting ready to move out of our old place into our new, on top of housesitting for my parents and babysitting their dog, whilst juggling full-time work, meant that we literally had zero time for anything. Whoa! This must be what parenthood is…

    Regret, I’ve had a few

Reading Time: 3 Minutes What’s up everyone! Hope we’re all having an AWESOME weekend. What’d you guys get up to? Man, tell you what, I am so glad this heatwave in Sydney has passed. It got so hot sometimes that I actually couldn’t function as a human being… I think that’s when you know you need a time-out. When self-immolation turns from an interesting Wikipedia article into reality. I was reading in the news that mid-week, the 15… yes FIFTEEN hottest places on the planet were in Australia… Love it. Reading Time: 3 Minutes “Honey, we’re out of milk and bread”. Damnit I think, as I pick up the keys to head over to the shops. Hmm bread, bread… ah ha – gotcha. Now for some milk… oh look there’s thin-cut potato wedges on sale… Half an hour later, what was initially a two item shopping list turned into a trolley FULL of groceries which we don’t even need (c’mon Babe, those rubber gloves were on sale). As I approached the counter to pay with my card, the young lady asked: “Cheque, Savings or Credit?” Now, like you – I must have heard this hundreds if not thousands of times…

Global Total Returns 2018 (vs 2017)

Reading Time: 2 Minutes What’s up everyone! Found this little beauty off the inter-webs, a good visual summary of where global markets ended for 2018… as you can see, unless you were invested in Qatar (standout), Peru or Russia, you would have been better to stash your cash under the mattress. Oh, and same goes for the defensive sectors of Healthcare and Utilities! Just goes to show that investing can be painful – the stock market doesn’t always go up! Interesting to note the performance compared with 2017, which was a phenomenal year to be invested. So what’s ahead for 2019 then? If I had a dollar every time someone…
