Reading Time: 2 Minutes
It’s FINISHED! FINALLY!
What’s finished? The year? 2024?
Um… oh yeah that too.
Although I was referring to the end of the holidays for our kids day-care.
Oh Lordy… the moment when I dropped off both kids this morning, Tuesday 7th January 2025… indescribable.
*Editor’s Note: I had finished and was ready to send this post out yesterday, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to delay it until today… still, enjoy.
If I had to describe it in one word – it would be pure ecstasy, relief, elation and more than a slight trepidation.
Even when I heard BabyFrugalSamurai screaming her pitiful cries “DAAAAADDDYYY… DAAADDDDYYY” across the playground, when a large part of me wanted to go back and hold her tight, the larger part remembered the torture of the last two weeks:
“You’re someone else’s problem now”.
Honestly, this past fortnight has enhanced my respect for single parents.
Especially single parents of toddlers.

A wise old man once said “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better”.
If so by God – I must be damn near perfect by now.
But enough, the trauma is past, I have endured.
This segue probably sets the scene for what I anticipate 2025 to be, most likely one long grind-fest.
(Grind-fest for me, unknown what it will hold for you – I hope much riches, true love and world peace).
Whether for my business, raising the kids, adding to the net worth, doing general grown-up adult shit – I’m ready to grit my teeth and bear it.
And you know what?
That’s OK with me.
It’s long ago past that the sole aim of my inconsequential being was about trying to make the most money.
If I had to be truly honest, arguably it never was about trying to make money just for the sake of money when I started this journey.
It was always about trying to claw back that most precious asset – time.

Nowadays, with hair that is thinner, a belly that is fatter and a bladder that is smaller, I think I would add one more caveat to the above:
Time to have a purpose.
Looking back – if you’re working the 9 to 5 or even plugging away at your business or your craft or profession, whatever it may be – if you’re just doing it for money or to fill up time until the weekend or ticking down the days until annual leave, then there’s a distinct lack of self-worth and it’s easy to drift aimlessly.
It’s only when you have a purpose, some laser focus on a far far away goal which seems nigh on impossible in the interim (like raising those pesky kids until adulthood, or crafting your own business until critical mass, or making it to the elite levels of your sport/profession) are you really living that most mysterious of words… POTENTIAL.
So for 2025 – whatever and wherever you may be, I wish you all the best in finding and keeping your purpose, your hustle and above all – the time to make things happen.
Just don’t have kids…
Joking joking, have kids… but make them someone else’s problem.
