Caution to All Passive Index Investors – Beware the High Winds!

    June 4, 2018

Hai guyz! What’s happening? How was your weekend! Enjoy the winter chill much? Yesterday was pretty insane, waking up at six in the morning so I could be chasing little kids around the park (I’m a soccer referee). The wind chill and gusts felt like playing in a gale on the Arctic Tundra. In fact, it was so bad at one stage that the pegs holding the goals down snapped off and the goals flipped over themselves (they were the fancy mobile goals). Immediately after that, I made the decision to call the game off. You should have heard the reactions from the parents when it happened. “WTF TheFrugalSamurai, don’t…

5 Things to Remember on the First Day of Work

    May 13, 2018

Howdy guys! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Gosh the days and weeks fly by don’t they? Last week was a bit special for yours truly because it was the last week of my gardening leave. Gardening leave is leave which your employer grants so you can better take care of your garden. “Go home and don’t come back until you get that filthy garden cleaned up.” No, I lie, unfortunately – the real definition of gardening leave is: “An employee’s suspension from work on full pay for the duration of a notice period, typically to prevent them from having any further influence on the organization or from accessing confidential…

4 Things I learnt Investing in Cryptocurrency

    May 10, 2018

“A young man stood to inherit $10 million if he could turn $10k into $1m by the end of the month. The young man put the entire $10k into Cryptocurrency and it turned from $10k into $100 million in a matter of days. Fortunately for the young man, on the last day of the month, the value of Cryptocurrency crashed through the floor and his $100 million turned into $1m”. That was a joke I first heard during the last Crypto boom in late December/early January, a mere 4 months ago. Surely you all remember how social media, mainstream media and our own personal medium were all abuzz with Cryptocurrency…

The Millionaire Next Door (Book Review)

    May 7, 2018

What’s up fellow Samuraites! Hope you’re nice and rested for the coming week! MrsFrugalSamurai and I enjoyed a wonderful day out with our friends in the sun on beautiful Sydney Harbour. Surely there are worse places in the world than a relaxing lunch in the late Autumn sun by the water? Seems like half of Sydney thought the same thing, because the sidewalks and restaurants were filled to the brim full of couples, families and friends all enjoying good times and great food. Sometime during our conversations, I looked around me and couldn’t help but notice the amount of bling and designer names adorned across the multitudes of individuals. My…

    Visualizing The World

    May 3, 2018

What’s up Frugal Samuraites! Hope everyone’s having a great time. MrsFrugalSamurai and I are still recovering from our magical wedding day, was worth every rocky step of the journey planning it. We took out some of MrsFrugalSamurai’s relatives from overseas afterwards to thank them for making the long journey to celebrate with us. During lunch, a relative of hers (a very successful career woman in financial services) found out that I too worked in financial services. As you do, we both started talking about… you guessed it – financial services. The conversation twirled from the Australian economy, to how hard difficult it is to purchase real estate in Hong Kong…
