    September Net Wealth Update

    October 4, 2020

Reading Time: 2 Minutes Hm, looks like things are getting back to normal here in Oz. Thank goodness for that I say, though spare a thought for those Aussies stuck overseas. Because the 2nd wave is washing over the UK, Eurozone and part of the US (or is that the first wave?) Hello uncertainty, my old friend. Oh and speaking of uncertainty… US elections anyone? What a crazy rollercoaster that promises to be. It doesn’t really affect you and I of course, but I’ve always found the US Presidential race the most entertaining reality TV on the planet… so I’ll be well tuned in. On the personal front, nothing major to…

A Shout Out To Aussies Stranded Overseas

    September 27, 2020

Reading Time: 2 Minutes Attention! Today’s post is about bringing awareness to an issue you might not have thought about – and that is the plight of thousands of Aussies stuck overseas, and wanting to come home. A big thank you to The Aussie Minimalist Doc for highlighting this issue. Although COVID-19 numbers are starting to settle down here in Australia, overseas the numbers tell a different story. The 2nd wave is well and truly upon the UK and Eurozone, and are escalating dramatically in India, the Middle East and the US amongst others. As you can imagine, there are thousands of Australian citizens in those areas who want to,…

    August Net Wealth Update

    September 6, 2020

Reading Time: 2 Minutes What a difference a month makes, 2nd wave of lockdowns seem to have worked and I’m hoping that things return to normality soon. No big waves on the personal investing front, apart from some rebalancing of portfolios and a couple of big ticket expense items. Although at the macro level, at time of writing – tech stocks have started to take a beating. Fair enough I say, no company can justify 10x of their value in 6 months. My personal opinion is that investing in most tech stocks is speculating on a story, no more, no less. You can read the July net wealth update here.…

    July Net Wealth Update

    August 9, 2020

Reading Time: 2 Minutes The 2nd wave of COVID-19 is well and truly here in Australia, with Victorians doing it pretty tough at the moment with stage 4 lockdowns. Will there be a stage 5? What even is stage 5? I have no idea. It’s pretty full on at the moment, and can only hope that the nation can get through this together. Financially speaking, there was plenty of talk for both the property market and ASX dropping with the coming of the 2nd wave. This… hasn’t… happened. Will it ever? Again, no idea to be honest (my confusion is a recurring theme) as I’ve long stopped caring about forecasts…

Australian Business Confidence Plunged in July

    August 5, 2020

Reading Time: 2 Minutes Hey folks, On the theme of the last post in bringing out real-time economic data to your attention, I thought I would share the findings from the latest Roy Morgan Business Confidence report. Roy Morgan is one of the most respected and leading research houses out there and certainly a data source the market relies on. And their business confidence report is one of the most closely watched… because well… jobs, jobs and jobs! Oh yeah, and also business spending and investment. Suffice to say business confidence has plunged again last month. Naturally, the fall in July was driven by businesses becoming increasingly concerned about Australia’s…
