Global Total Returns 2019 (YTD June)

    July 17, 2019

Reading Time: 2 Minutes Howdy all! How are you? Was just remarking tonight that I can’t believe we are almost at the end of July! Crazy stuff. Anyway, thought it’d be good to have a quick review of the year that’s been. Fortuitously I found this little beauty of a chart from the MSCI global total returns as of the end of June (ignore the headline date – there are of course only 30 days in June, but we’ll forgive the author for that). As you can see, it’s been a GREAT year so far for those of us who are invested in the global stock market. Unless you have…

    Investing Resources and Links 2019

    January 16, 2019

Reading Time: 3 Minutes What’s up fellow Frugal Samuraites! Hope we are all having a great week. Gonna be quick today cos I’m late to meet MrsFrugalSamurai, we’ve got a hot date “wink wink”. Ahem. Anyway, so in a mad rush I was thinking how to make this post as pointy as possible. Then EUREKA. I thought, what best than to share some of the resources and links which I’ve used in the past to obtain my financial info! It’s a fairly chunky list… and most of them won’t be new – but hopefully there’s a golden nugget or two in there! Here it is: Australian Business News The Australian…

Global Total Returns 2018 (vs 2017)

    January 9, 2019

Reading Time: 2 Minutes What’s up everyone! Found this little beauty off the inter-webs, a good visual summary of where global markets ended for 2018… as you can see, unless you were invested in Qatar (standout), Peru or Russia, you would have been better to stash your cash under the mattress. Oh, and same goes for the defensive sectors of Healthcare and Utilities! Just goes to show that investing can be painful – the stock market doesn’t always go up! Interesting to note the performance compared with 2017, which was a phenomenal year to be invested. So what’s ahead for 2019 then? If I had a dollar every time someone…

    Hello 2019

    January 3, 2019

Reading Time: 3 Minutes Hi everyone! Welcome back, welcome back. Gestures to an open fire crackling in the hearth. Hope we all had a fantastic New Year’s party – I know I did! And ouch, what a hangover right? We spent our NYE at our friend Emili’s (not her real name, so you’re safe Emily if you’re reading this), chomping on KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) and playing a multitude of board games as we waited to ring in 2019. Between all the yelling and laughing and general good times, I had what you would call an epiphany. Been having a fair few of those recently (read here and here). Yknow,…

    Farewell 2018

    December 31, 2018

Reading Time: 4 Minutes Well guys it’s finally here aye. The end of 2019. Had to happen of course, I mean each year is the beginning of the rest of our lives and all that. In a bit of a philosophical mood as you can tell, just finished reading a post from a blogger who I respect and follow about his 2018. It was a fairly reflective and raw piece, he’s achieved a lot, said a lot, done a lot – but you know I get the feeling that he’s not satisfied a lot. At least that’s what I’m reading it as, could just be that he’s becoming more grumpy…
